TB management in the European Union/European Economic Area: a multi‐centre survey

BACKGROUND: Essential TB care in the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) comprises 21 standards for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of that constitute Union Standards Tuberculosis Care (ESTC). METHODS: In 2017, we conducted an audit on management infection control measures against ESTC standards. reference centres five EU/EEA countries were purposely selected to represent heterogeneous burden examine geographic variability. RESULTS: Data from 122 patients, diagnosed between 2012 2015 with multidrug-resistant ( n = 49), extensively drug‐resistant (XDR‐TB) 11), pre‐XDR‐TB 29) drug‐susceptible 33), showed diagnosis practices general agreement ESTC. CONCLUSION: Overall, centres. Areas improvement include strengthening integrated services further implementation patient‐centred approaches.
